CERTIFICATE OF ACCREDITATION ON DANGEROUS GOODS TRAINING
March 23, 2023
Air Niugini has received its Certificate of Accreditation on Dangerous Goods (DG) training from International Air Transport Association (IATA), focusing on Competency-based Training and Assessments (CBTA) guidelines. This is a first, for an airline in PNG!
Air Niugini’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Gary Seddon said the accreditation followed a stringent review of the dangerous goods regulations. CBTA is a new, mandated method of conducting and assessing DG training by International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and IATA.
He said “The accreditation means the Air Niugini Training school can provide internationally recognized dangerous goods training qualifications with co-branded IATA certification. This further supports Air Niugini’s DG training reputation across the region.”
“The IATA accreditation process is an intensive one and I commend all Air Niugini staff involved,” Mr Seddon said
Dangerous goods are restricted articles, hazardous materials and items that may endanger the safety of persons on board the aircraft. Dangerous Goods training therefore provides technical knowledge, procedures and process to ensure the highest safety standards to satisfy ICAO /IATA/CASA PNG Regulatory requirements.
Air Niugini provides DG training internally to its staff and externally to organisations with dangerous goods cargo requirements including airlines, mining companies, fuel companies, RPNGC, PNGDF, Hospitals, and companies such as Hevi-Lift, OTML, SANTOS, PUMA Energy, WHO, Fedex/TNT and DHL.
