Things to see and do
If surfing in remote areas is your style then there are few places quite like Manus Island. Get out on the water while Manus Island dishes up some perfect conditions. When the surf flattens out, take the opportunity to explore the waters around the island in a kayak. Alternatively, check out some of the exotic marine life with some snorkelling or diving. Loniu Cave on Los Negros Island (joined by bridge to Manus) was utilised by locals during World War II to avoid bombs being dropped by the Allied forces. The cave has a number of open chambers you can explore and is home to a colony of small bats. The island also offers the opportunity to marvel at some the beautiful birdlife. For a cultural experience, check out the Garamut Dancing which is a traditional dance performed by locals. Hire a bike and explore the island from a unique perspective.
